Opportunities for Women: Zimele Fund beneficiary Mercy Sithagu
Learn about how Forevermark, through The De Beers Group of Companies provides opportunities for women in communities surrounding the mines.
She runs Sithagu Farm in the small village of Nwanedi in South Africa's Limpopo Province. With help from the Zimele fund to buy materials and install an irrigation system, Mercy has built an operation of which she is justly proud; the quality of her tomatoes, butternut squash and watermelons was high enough in 2012 for the local Musina Municipality to name her Female Farmer of the Year.
Mercy was also able to use the Zimele Fund money to preserve five jobs and to create five more permanent positions, as well as ten temporary positions during the tomato harvest.
